The ceremony, which took place in the Cohen University Center's Weigand Gym, brought together family members, friends, other guests, faculty, and staff who recognized the graduates with applause and shouts of acclaim.
During the event, Department Head Carl Laird thanked the gathered guests for the opportunity to educate the graduating students. He also asked the students to recognize their families and friends who had supported them during their journey.
...Whether the challenges in front of you are related to the environment, energy, medicine, or are even societal, know that you have the skills and character to make a difference.

You know how to work in and lead teams, and you know how to communicate your message. You... you are chemical engineers."
"You can stand proud as a graduate of Carnegie Mellon, but this also comes with a responsibility," he continued. "The world is full of challenges, and whether the challenges in front of you are related to the environment, energy, medicine, or are even societal, know that you have the skills and character to make a difference."
